Most of us start life with strong muscles that keep the urethra supported and closed so urine doesn’t leak out during everyday activities.
Bladder leaks (aka stress urinary incontinence / SUI) happen when the muscles that support the urethra lose strength over time or become damaged.
Uresta goes inside your vagina where it sits under your urethra and supports it through the vaginal wall. Uresta acts as a supportive shelf to prevent urine from leaking out during moments of pressure (aka sneezing or jumping).
You can still pee normally with Uresta in, the natural pressure of urinating opens your urethra so urine comes out.
“Uresta has allowed me to enjoy and increase the intensity of my workouts and accelerate my weight loss journey. I am also excited to be able to wear it to receptions and be able to dance.” – April,
“I hope all women get to experience jumping on a trampoline or whatever it is that you hope to do without urinary leakage. There is hope, there is help, don’t let anything hold you back.” – Jen,
What about pelvic floor physiotherapy?
Uresta is a great compliment to pelvic floor physiotherapy, in fact we have many pelvic floor physiotherapists who recommend Uresta. Uresta provides immediate relief from leaks, which can be beneficial as it takes time and effort to see results from pelvic floor physiotherapy. For some women, pelvic floor strengthening is not enough to completely eliminate their leaks, especially during exercise. Sometimes you just need a little extra support and Uresta can provide that.
Where does Uresta go?
Uresta is inserted vaginally and provides support to your pelvic floor muscles through the vaginal wall to stop leaks from occurring. Think of it as a sports bra… but for your bladder! It just holds everything in place when you sneeze, jump, cough, etc.!
Do I need to remove Uresta to pee?
No, Uresta is inserted into vagina and does not plug or obstruct the urethra. If your Uresta is properly fitted you should still be able to pee, and have bowel movements when inserted. If you are unable to do so, you should consider a smaller size.
Is Uresta comfortable?
Yes! Many women say Uresta is surprisingly comfortable. Once in place you shouldn’t feel Uresta, similar to how you cannot feel a tampon or menstrual cup once inserted.
Will it make my incontinence worse over time?
No, Uresta will not make your urinary incontinence symptoms worse. Uresta does not weaken or damage your pelvic floor muscles. Uresta has been clinically proven to be safe and effective for long-term use.
Do I need a prescription?
Uresta is available via prescription in the US, simply discuss with your family physician or specialist to see if Uresta is right for you.
Uresta was founded by world-renowned, Canadian urogynecologist and Dalhousie University Professor Dr. Scott A. Farrell. He recognized that the options for dealing with leaks were outdated, not to mention uncomfortable, and wanted to create a non-invasive, at-home solution.
In 2014, the company was acquired by a group of accomplished Canadian female entrepreneurs. Today, Uresta is led by our bright and determined CEO Lauren Barker. With a background in finance and an interest in women’s health, she’s in good company with our shareholder group, comprised of the chair of a top Canadian bank, a CEO of a renewable energy company, the lead partner for a global consulting firm, a division head of a global pharmaceutical company, and other amazing and powerful women determined to help women with incontinence take back control of their life.
