5 reasons women over 50 are done with pads for bladder leaks

A pad catches a leak after it happens. Uresta helps stop it before it does.
Our CEO explains why women are switching.

The short version

  • Uresta supports your bladder and stops leaks before they happen, like a bra for your bladder.
  • No odor, no dampness, nothing against your skin all day.
  • It's reusable. One kit, washed and worn for up to a year.
  • It's comfortable, and you can pee with it in.
  • It can cost less than a year of pads, and you have 30 days to decide.
Most women who find Uresta have been living with bladder leaks for years. A pad every day, just in case. Dark pants. Legs crossed when a sneeze is coming. I don't think you should have to live that way. I don't think you should have to live that way.

That's why I partnered with Dr. Scott Farrell, a urogynecologist (a specialist in women's bladder health). He wanted to give women something they could manage on their own, and that's what we've spent our time making sure Uresta is.

"Uresta is my favorite because it is reusable and works best."

Reason 1

Uresta supports your bladder and stops leaks before they happen!

When you cough, sneeze, laugh or lift, pressure pushes down on your bladder. If the muscles and tissue that hold it up have stretched or weakened, which is common after childbirth and menopause, bladder leaks happen.

Uresta sits inside your vagina and supports your bladder from underneath, so it can stay closed when the pressure hits. I always like to say it's like a bra for your bladder.

Pads only catch a leak after it happens. Uresta works before it, and women notice the difference. Here’s what they reported in a clinical study:

Reason 2

No odor. No dampness. Nothing against your skin all day.

Two active women smiling and jogging together outdoors on a sunny day.

Made for everyday life: walks, workouts, time with family.

Pads and leakproof underwear hold moisture against your skin, which can lead to odor and rashes. Uresta doesn't absorb anything, so there's nothing damp against you and nothing to smell.

When women tell me what changed, it's usually the little things. Wearing light-colored pants again. Leaving the house without a plan B. Picking up a grandchild without crossing their legs first.

Reason 3

It's reusable. One kit, washed and worn for up to a year.

No more buying pads every week. Just wet the Uresta with warm water and use a dab of any unscented hand soap or use our Natural Cleaning Gel. Then, lather it up and rinse with warm water.

We recommend swapping out your Uresta at least once a year. It’s a hygiene thing, like renewing your toothbrush. Every Starter Kit comes with a travel pouch, so it goes wherever you go.

Finding your size:

The Starter Kit comes with sizes 3, 4 and 5. Start with 4.

The Starter Kit includes the three most popular sizes (3, 4, & 5), which works for about 90% of our customers. Start off with the middle size 4. Try a smaller size if it’s kinda uncomfortable or you’re having trouble emptying your bladder. Try a larger size if leaks are still happening, or the Uresta slides down or falls out. If you need a size 2 or 6, we’ll send it to you for free upon request within the first 30 days.
Reason 4

It's comfortable, and you can pee with it in.

Lots of women find the Uresta surprisingly comfy. Once you have the right size and you push it fully into place, you shouldn’t even notice it’s there. It’s comparable to a tampon or menstrual cup in the way it feels… some say even more comfortable!

How do I insert it?
Uresta inserts into the vagina. Start by taking a few deep breaths to relax. Push out (like you would a bowel movement) as you push in the device. Use a smidge of water-based lubricant if needed.

Once inserted, the Uresta should be fully into the vagina, including the handle. The tip of the handle should be about 2 cm (or ¾ inch) from the opening of the vagina.

Do I need to take it out to pee?
Nope! The Uresta goes in your vagina and does not block the urethra. The urine stays in your bladder until you’re ready to go to the washroom. The Uresta won’t stop the flow or absorb any of the urine.

If your Uresta fits and is inserted properly, you should still be able to go to the washroom (#1 and #2) as normal. If you’re having trouble going to the washroom, you likely need a smaller size.

Can I lose it?
No, Uresta will not disappear inside you! It’s totally normal for it to move up in your vagina throughout the day.

Uresta is designed with a handle to make removal easy. Simply grab the handle, twist and pull. Every Starter Kit also includes 15 optional removal strings.

Reason 5

It can cost less than a year of pads, and you have 30 days to decide.

Pads and liners cost money every week, for as long as you leak. Here’s how a year of Uresta compares with the other options.

Annual cost breakdown. Uresta Starter Kit: $179. Leak-proof underwear: $500+. Pads & liners: $900+. Pelvic Floor physiotherapy: $1000+. Approximate cost over one year. One Uresta Starter Kit is reusable for up to a year.
You wash and reuse Uresta for up to a year. Used for a full year, your Starter Kit works out to about 49 cents a day. It's HSA and FSA eligible in the US, and if it isn't right for you, email us within 30 days for a full refund.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does Uresta go? Plus

Uresta is inserted vaginally and provides support to your pelvic floor muscles through the vaginal wall to stop leaks from occurring. Think of it as a sports bra… but for your bladder! It just holds everything in place when you sneeze, jump, cough, etc.!

Do I need to take it out to pee? Plus

No, you don't! Uresta is placed in the vagina and doesn't obstruct the urethra, so urine stays in your bladder until you're ready to use the washroom. Uresta won't block the flow or absorb any urine. When properly fitted and inserted, you should be able to go to the washroom (both #1 and #2) as usual. If you experience any difficulty, you may need a smaller size.

How do I use the new handle and optional Removal String? Plus

The finger hole handle lets you get a secure grip and remove Uresta with one finger. Locate the handle, insert your finger, and pull out. Tip: twisting or tipping Uresta side to side first helps break the seal.

For extra help locating the handle, use an optional Removal String. They're pre-looped, so just loop the string through the handle, then through its other end, and pull to tighten around the base of the handle. Tip: position it on either side of the middle divider ridge for better control.

To remove, follow the string to the handle, then insert your finger as above.

Removal Strings are optional and single-use — discard after each use. Each Starter Kit includes 15 free samples; a 60-count Removal String Wallet is available for restocking.

Is Uresta comfortable? Plus

Absolutely! Lots of women find the Uresta surprisingly comfy. Once you have the right size and you push it fully into place, you shouldn’t even notice it’s there. It’s comparable to a tampon or menstrual cup in the way it feels… some say even more comfortable!

Do I need a prescription? Plus

Nope! Although many pelvic floor physiotherapists and healthcare providers recommend Uresta, a prescription isn’t required. You can easily purchase Uresta directly from our website here.

Will it make my incontinence worse over time? Plus

No, it won’t!

While Uresta isn’t designed for pelvic muscle training, it’s highly effective at managing bladder leaks. In other words, Uresta doesn’t strengthen your muscles, but it also won’t make your incontinence worse.

How long can I use it before replacing it? Plus

We recommend 1 year. For safety and optimal long-term use, we recommend swapping out your Uresta at least once a year. It’s a hygiene thing, like renewing your toothbrush or switching out your socks. Keep it fresh, keep it comfy!
